The Role of the Leader in the Age of Knowledge

There used to be times when the talent of leaders was enough to raise a company afloat. The global structure of the current world demands that we look towards the productive force, towards the people, who with their contribution and capacity will be able to create new value that will allow in turn to develop consistent competitive advantages, which lead the organization to position itself.

The talent of leaders is no longer enough to raise a company or negotiation afloat. The global structure of the current world demands that we look toward the productive force, towards the people, who with their contribution and capacity will be able to create new value that will allow in turn to develop consistent competitive advantages, which lead the organization to position itself.

It must be borne in mind that any company, to be successful, requires its 3 main actors to be satisfied: its collaborators, its clients and its partners.

Employees, being organized to produce, acquire great knowledge within the production process itself and in their work routines, which represents a great source of generation and creation of value; However, to “exploit” this source, the leader must be a true inspiring leader, a visionary person, who must also possess, among others, the following qualities: feel a great appreciation for his collaborators; knowing how to listen to them and motivate them; show consistency and be a good example for them; support, train and advise them; teach them to work as a team; be dynamic; teach them to self-learn continuously; and provide them with the facilities and supports for their self-development.

It is very important, in this age of knowledge, to give way to creativity and innovation; ensure that these are manifested and new ideas and actions are produced that favor the organization and all those who participate in it, so the leader must establish mechanisms so that people, in a systematic way, do it.

The above also has to do with the approach of seeking customer satisfaction. The leader knows perfectly that to achieve the above, he must focus his actions and those of his collaborators, taking care to comply with the following 4 fundamental factors: Innovation; Knowledge; Speed, and Timeliness.

Innovation plays a very important role in achieving competitiveness. Currently the client is increasingly demanding, so processes, services and products must be continuously innovated, in order to meet their needs, and seek to surprise them, offering something that meets beyond their expectations.

For this reason, knowledge is considered as a factor of production, since people, through the use of their intelligence, will make contributions to improve products, services and processes, if the appropriate culture and channels are established to go achieving it.

As regards speed, the customer increasingly appreciates a supplier who has a quick response capacity to his demands. You are no longer satisfied only with the quality of your products or services or the good price you can offer.

In order to make the products and / or services available to the client in a timely manner, there must be, first of all, within the company, a clear orientation towards satisfying their needs, with collaborators who are committed and prepared for it. There must also be a way of working where people’s participation is facilitated, which motivates them to make contributions to production processes. That is why it is very convenient and necessary that teamwork be practiced. This implies that the operational structure of the organization must be flexible, where the channels of information and communication flow to all the members of the company are well established, which allows the increase of its human capital.

Again, the figure of the leader emerges, to provide his collaborators with whatever is necessary so that the activities are developed in an environment that includes all of the above.

In relation to the satisfaction of the partners, carrying out the above actions, together with the fact of gradually creating a financial culture, with the clear awareness and business focus of all the collaborators, will allow the organization to be more profitable, for the fact that work is being done on the optimization and improvement of processes, a situation that will result in the reduction of production costs.

As we can see, today we are immersed in a globalized world that demands every day to be innovating and learning continuously, and that leaves no option to remain idle. The leader must be very clear that the current world of business is and will be one of those organizations that are concerned with increasing their human capital, which is based on permanent learning and knowledge management of all its members.
